Founded by entrepreneur/philanthropist Miles Rubin with a mission to rapidly develop advanced all electric vehicles to meet the needs of organizations and everyday drivers, while using no gas and producing zero tailpipe emissions.
The company is based in Los Angeles, California, with several facilities throughout the United States, is privately held by "Green" magnate Miles Rubin. The company gained prominence in 2005 when it began sales of the ZX40 electric vehicle, the first street-legal Chinese-made electric automobile sold in the United States. The company's electric vehicles, built on steel unibody chassis, are the world's first crash tested NEVs to achieve DoT, CARB and NHTSA compliance.
Miles Electric Vehicles is a manufacturer and distributor of full electric vehicles manufactured in China to meet international car safety standards. The company was recently given the "Electric Car Company of 2007" award by Good Clean Tech.
The current electric vehicle models include low speed all electric vehicles that produce zero tailpipe emissions and deliver strikingly low operating costs, making them a great fit for greening fleets nationwide.
The MILES XS500 electric car prototype sedan currently under development will top 80mph and travel over 120 miles on a single charge for about the cost of a gallon of gas.
Electric cars is our mission is to change the world one car at a time.
As carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels continue to rise, we believe it is important to change society’s perception of transportation. By designing advanced all electric cars that produce zero tailpipe emissions, we are facilitating change to ensure a livable future.
Every electric car makes a difference, and every mile driven contributes to our ultimate mission: A world without emissions.
At Miles Electric Vehicles we believe in the power of positive change and are working to make a sustainable difference that will benefit the environment today and for generations to come.
Not only are our zero emissions all electric, low speed vehicles ideally suited for fleet and neighborhood driving, but they also set the category standard for safety, comfort, quality and value. For the average commuter, MILES is developing a highway speed electric vehicle, the MILES XS500, which will meet most daily transportation needs while preventing CO2 emissions.
All Electric Vehicles are DOT / NHTSA Federal Standard 500 compliant, offering steel chassis, steel impact-resistant frame, steel doors and DOT-approved glass throughout.
By driving a MILES electric vehicle, you will reduce your hydrocarbon footprint and reduce society’s dependence on oil. Over the course of a just one year, you can prevent thousands of pounds of emissions and the use of hundreds of gallons of gas.
Miles Electric Vehicles and No Gas Required launched a contest for college students to create videos extolling the virtues of alternative fuel vehicles. Architecture student Jagjeet Singh Chahal of Ball State University was picked as the winner due to her fantastic video submitted on youtube. On Earth Day, Singh received his scholarship and Ball State Director of Facilities Bus Services/Transportation took possession of the ZX40 for the school. The Ball State fleet already consists of hybrid, E85 and biodiesel vehicles as well as six electric buses.
For the 2008 MILES introduced AC(alternating current) electric motors for its low-speed electric vehicles. The advanced three phase, brushless AC induction motor offers 4 times the available power as typical DC motors, and has a 100,000+ mile estimated lifetime. The AC motors are paired to a Curtis-Albright AC Motor Controllers and optimized for superior hill climbing performance --historically an issue for many electric vehicles.
The most powerful "fleet" electric truck on the market debuted at FedFleet in Orlando in the summer of 2007. The MILES ZX40ST electric truck tops out at 25 miles an hour and travels 50-60 miles per charge. The ZX40ST electric truck uses an advanced three phase, brushless, AC induction motor, which comes standard with regenerative braking and optional air conditioning. MSRP $18,400.
